Questions we hear often
Everything you need to know before booking a magic mushroom retreat in Tulum, Mexico. Don't see your question? Reach out — we're happy to talk it through.
What are the benefits of psilocybin plant medicine?
Guests come away describing more empathy toward themselves and others, a felt release from long-held trauma, a reset of habitual thought patterns, more freely flowing love, sparked creativity, and lighter mood. Every journey is different — these are common threads, not guarantees.
Who are my guides?
A trained team sits with you through the entire ceremony — listening, playing music, helping with physical discomfort, and holding space so you can go inward safely. A Mayan shaman leads the opening blessing and facilitation.
Is it private?
Both options are available. If you'd rather journey alone or with your own group, we can arrange a private ceremony; if you're open to sharing the space with a small group of other guests, that's available too. Let us know your preference when you reach out.
What if I have a difficult journey?
We don't think in terms of "good" and "bad" trips — a challenging journey usually surfaces something worth looking at. Your guides are trained to support you through difficult moments with music, presence, and grounding techniques, and preparation beforehand (breathwork, intention-setting) helps you meet whatever comes up.
Why Silo Sanctuary over other centers?
Our team has hosted wellness retreats in Tulum for more than 20 years. That experience shows up in the small things — how a space is held, how guides read the room, how integration is structured — not just in the ceremony itself.
How can I make the most of my experience?
Come with self-compassion, for yourself and for whatever comes up for others around you. Simple breathing practice in the days before helps. And more than anything — try to let go of the need to control the experience and let it move through you.
Are there risks I should know about?
Yes — psilocybin can surface difficult emotions or physical discomfort, and this isn't the right fit for everyone. That's exactly why preparation, an experienced guide team, and a safe, held environment matter. We're not a medical facility and this isn't medical treatment; if you have questions about whether ceremony is right for you, talk to a healthcare provider first.
Can I attend if I'm on psychiatric medication?
Please speak with a licensed mental health professional before you book. Some psychiatric medications, particularly SSRIs, can significantly blunt or otherwise interact with the effects of psilocybin, and any change to your medication should be guided by your prescriber — never stopped on your own.
What if I'm not dealing with trauma — can I still come?
Absolutely. Many guests aren't in crisis at all — they're curious, looking to deepen creativity, strengthen relationships, or simply understand themselves better. Ceremony is open to anyone approaching it with intention and respect for the medicine.
